Weather

Weather is a set of mechanics that change the battle environment, activating Abilities, modifying certain moves, and potentially damaging the Pokémon in battle or affecting their stats.

Duration and Variations of Weather

Weather can be called by the moves Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Sandstorm, Hail, Shadow Sky, Clear Skies, Raging Storm or Calm Storms. It can also be called by the abilities Drought, Drizzle, Sand Stream, Snow Warning, Cloud Nine, or Stormweaver. No ability exists that can summon Shadow Sky.

If summoned by moves or abilities, weather lasts five turns (except Intense Storm) or until overwritten by another weather effect. Natural weather phenomena (weather that is persistent in the overworld) lasts indefinitely unless overwritten by another weather effect.

The move Cyclonic Storm will intensify some of the effects of weather. Lugia's exclusive move Raging Storm will change the weather to Intense Storm and will also intensify the weather as if Cyclonic Storm was used.
